Evanston IL 311 Service 5 Years Later

Today we are going to look at the Evanston IL 311 Service and 5 years later. One week ago, marked the five-year anniversary of the service. The people running it do a fine job. It is worth mentioning. 311 Staff

The Evanston IL 311 service is located in the police station but this is a non-emergency service. People have called them multiple times over the years and always received an answer to question or were directed to the proper person.

Here is an example of questions asked. There was an issue as to how to pay by credit card for a parking permit and the operator sent me over to the people who collect these funds and it was taken care of. Once there was a question about the Fourth of July fireworks and they answered the question right away.

Other people have mentioned how helpful the service is and what a great asset to the community of Evanston IL. They even allow and respond to text messages and online chats via the City of Evanston web site.

Here are some interesting stats about what has been encountered in the last 5 years.  The center have handled 678,101 phone calls, 132,270 service requests, 9,916 live online chats (starting July 2012)
1,459 text messages (starting July 2014).

Quoting the City web site site

“Congratulations and thank you to the entire Evanston 311 team for their tremendous work over the last five years, and thank you to all City staff for their good work responding to 311 service requests,” said City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz. “Evanston 311 has been a game changer for the City of Evanston and its residents, improving both internal and external City services, increasing efficiency and accountability, and ensuring that City services and information are convenient and accessible to all residents.”

“Evanston 311 maintains a 10-person staff, including four original staff members and two bilingual (English/Spanish) staff. Services and offerings have continued to expand and improve each year since the Center’s launch. In addition to dialing 3-1-1, Evanston community members may now contact 311 by texting 847-448-4311, visiting cityofevanston.org/311, downloading the “Evanston 311” mobile app on the App Store or Google Play, or connecting with Evanston 311 on Twitter and Facebook. Evanston 311 staff also engage with residents and visitors in-person at community events throughout the year.”

Alternately hilarious and heartbreaking, “Steel Magnolias” is the play that inspired the blockbuster movie.  Six women from different generations share laughter, love and loss at Truvy’s Beauty Salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana — where anybody who’s anybody goes to get their hair done.

Best friends Ouiser (pronounced WEE-zur) and Clairee trade scathing quips as the younger generations prepare for Shelby’s impending nuptials and to celebrate her married life.  But when life throws a devastating curve ball at Shelby and her mother, M’Lynn, these life-long friends band together to navigate rough tides with grace, new hairdos and wills made of steel.

The production team for “Steel Magnolias” includes Cailin Short and Mark Boergers (set design), Catharine Young (costume design), Matt Reich (sound design) and Jaclynn Joslin (stage manager).
